How B9 Cash Advance Works

⚡ How B9 works in one glance

  • Open an account → route a qualifying direct deposit → unlock an advance → it's repaid automatically on payday.
  • No credit check and no interest — the cost is the monthly membership.
  • Advances start small and grow as your deposit history builds.

B9 turns your recurring direct deposit into early-access cash. Here's the full flow we followed, from download to automatic repayment.

Everyday spending confidence — what a paycheck advance is actually for.

1. Open a B9 account

Download the B9 app and create an account. You'll verify your identity with a government ID and an SSN or ITIN. Opening the account also gives you a B9 balance and a B9 Visa debit card (virtual first, with a physical card by mail).

2. Set up direct deposit

This is the step that unlocks advances. You route some or all of your paycheck — or qualifying income like gig pay or government benefits — into your B9 account. B9 supports switching your deposit inside the app. Nothing advance-related happens until that first deposit arrives.

3. Unlock your advance

Once your first qualifying deposit lands, B9 shows the advance amount you're approved for. New members usually start small — often $10–$50 — and the ceiling grows with a consistent deposit history. Your current maximum is always shown in the app.

4. Cash out

Request the advance to your B9 balance or send it to an external bank. Moving it instantly to an outside account carries an optional fee; a standard ACH transfer is free but takes about 1–3 business days. You can spend directly from the B9 debit card with no transfer at all.

5. Automatic repayment

There's no due date and no late fee. When your next direct deposit hits your B9 account, the advance amount is deducted automatically. Because eligibility resets with each deposit, you can usually take another advance soon after — as long as your balance stays positive and the account is in good standing.

Reality checkThe direct-deposit requirement is the single biggest difference between B9 and apps that simply link your existing bank. If you're not ready to move your paycheck, read B9 requirements and our alternatives first.

What it costs to run

B9 charges a monthly membership instead of interest, and instant external transfers are an optional add-on. We itemize every charge on the fees & plans page.

Frequently asked questions

How long does B9 take to give an advance?
You can request an advance as soon as your first qualifying direct deposit posts to your B9 account. After that, funding to your B9 balance is typically fast; external transfers are instant for a fee or free within 1–3 business days.
Do I have to move my whole paycheck to B9?
You choose how much of your direct deposit to route to B9, but a qualifying deposit is required to keep advances active. Larger, consistent deposits generally raise your limit over time.
What income qualifies?
B9 has accepted W-2 payroll, gig and part-time income, and benefits such as SSI. Income from multiple sources can count toward your limit.
